Summary/Abstract: In European countries, a significant number of territorial changes have been observed at the municipal level in recent years. Changes are observed both in terms of merging local tertiary units and in terms of creating new municipalities through division. The purpose of this article is to examine the territorial changes that are observed in the municipalities in Bulgaria and in some European countries. The main task is to analyze the reforms, the reasons behind them and the results they lead to.
