The Church Slavonic translation of the calendrical stichera and kanon by Christopher of Mitylene in MS Zographou 115 (1392): Edition of the Text

Summary/Abstract: The popularity of Christopher of Mitylene’s calendrical stichera is reflected in the fact that they were translated more than once into Church Slavonic. One of these translations, extant in a Bulgarian manuscript dated 1583 in Bucharest and a Serbian manuscript of the seventeenth or eighteenth century in Vienna, has been known for some time from the studies by Follieri and Dujčev1 and Hannick.2 A second one has more recently come to light in several East Slavonic manuscripts of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.3 A third version, which masquerades as the work of Methodius of Patara, is found in a Bulgarian manuscript dated 1392, MS 115 in the library of the Zographou monastery,4 where it is accompanied by a translation of Christopher’s calendrical kanons and extensive supplementary hymnodic material.
