Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the documentary series «On French soil» of Gaito Gazdanov, written after the Second World War in 1945. The work describes real participants, war heroes and events that happened to them during the military actions. Author makes an attempt to understand the choice of the documentary genre for the representation of the era. Author notes the possibility of application of documentary prose in historical researches. The article notices the importance of this work for preservation of collective memory.
