Summary/Abstract: The recent evolution of conflicts in Europe brings to the fore the importance of the Russian Federation as an international player. Since the imperialist period, Russia has established itself due to its size and natural resources, always coveting the title of world superpower. The former Soviet Union’s diplomatic relations with the European Union are driven by Europeans’ dependence on Russia’s inexhaustible gas resources and are not based on cooperation or reciprocity, which has led to tense relations between the two over time.
