Summary/Abstract: The sequence of tenses is presented differently in French and in Romanian. According to some linguists, the sequence of tenses tends to disappear in modern French and it is absent in Romanian. Others ask the question: Can we talk about the sequence of tenses in Romanian? No ‘future of the past’, no almost compulsory imperfect concordance. In our opinion, the sequence of tenses is observed not only in French, but also in Romanian. The differences between the two languages concern certain uses of verb forms, especially in the syntactic relationship of subordination.
