Summary/Abstract: Research on the communist security apparatus lacks reflection on the specificity of women’s careers. I examine this problem by looking at a group of female functionaries who reached the highest positions in the security structures in 1944–1956. They worked mainly in administration, economic and technical departments and rarely in operational ones.
