Summary/Abstract: Human rights situation in Crimea has deteriorated dramatically during the two years of peninsula’s illegal annexation by the Russian Federation. Numerous cases of grave violations of fundamental rights and freedoms of ethnic Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and civil society activists attract the attention of the international community that looks for a way of ensuring respect for human rights in the region. More active engagement of international organizations with both Ukraine and Russia’s participation and the establishment of permanent monitoring of the situation could become a key to this problem.
