Traditional own resources of financing the European Union

Summary/Abstract: A significant part of the European Union's activities is financed fromtraditional own resources. However, these sources are volatile and uncertainconsidering the trend of trade liberalization, which has been present in recentdecades. This research reviews the change in tendencies of their significance overtime, as well as their wider impact on the welfare of different social groups withinthe European Union. The research employs the historical method, conceptualanalysis of law and economic analyses of law, consisting of descriptive statistics andcomparative statics methods by which the results were obtained indicatingsuboptimality of reliance on the traditional own resources. The results implicate theneed for identifying alternative sources of financing for the European Union
