Summary/Abstract: The article describes the creation of the new nomenklatura system within the Romanian Communist Party under the direct coordination of Elena Ceaușescu. It focuses on the career path, the selection criteria, the mechanisms of the system and some of the biographical data of the most relevant characters. The contribution highlights that the main outcomes of these developments were the deprival of competencies within the central party apparatus process as well as the total takeover by the Securitate (secret police) of the political vetting of party officials.
