Summary/Abstract: The essay examines the modern resentment as an inevitable consequence of the uncritical idealization of equality in democratic societies and as a driving force of National Socialist populism. The concept is applied not only to fascism but also to other forms of populism growing out of democracy. Following and advancing the ideas of Nietzsche and Scheler the author offers a critical and sharp analysis of the European social reality that is as relevant throughout the 1930-s, as it is today.
