Summary/Abstract: The article reviews the legal framework of a name change in Bulgaria with a special attention being paid to the hypothesis of Art.19, para 1, item 4 of the Civil Registration Act (CRA) – important circumstances necessitating change of the name. Cases from the case law of the national courts as well as the ECtHR are cited. The issue is examined in the light of the ECtHR judgment on the case Kazim v. Bulgaria (Applications nos. 39356/17).
