Summary/Abstract: Currently there is an increasing interest regarding the tourism economic impact at national level but also at local level. There are various papers analysing the multiplier effects, often brought to discussion for highlighting the impact of the tourist expenditure, for example, on the quality of life or economic growth of the local communities. The adaptation of tourist activity to increasingly diversified needs of tourists can lead in time also to appearance of some new activities, tourism having also a special contribution to the attainment of national gross value added. In this study we have used different models to estimate the economic impact of tourism in Romania, using annual data. Our analysis seeks to provide some estimates of the existing relations between economic and tourism variables used and also a better understanding of the role and importance of tourism in the economy.
