Summary/Abstract: In this study we intend to briefly analyse one of the contracts that the Maritime Navigation Law classifies as „contracts auxiliary to navigation“, the port handling contract, trying to establish the existing connections between the current regulations in relation to the activities carried out by port operators, the contractual modality and the liability regime, as well as the activity carried out in the ports of ancient Rome by the professional staff of the scaphari.
