Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the events that led to the fall of the Romanian monarchy on 30 December 1947 as reflected in the editorials signed by literary critic George Călinescu, director of the newspaper „Națiunea” (The Nation). George Călinescu was at this point perfectly aligned with the communist propaganda machine and abandoned any pretense of „rational critique” and was just trying to justify the brutal power grab that ended the Kingdom of Romania and gave birth to the Romanian Popular Republic.
