Summary/Abstract: In the last two decades, Romania contributed to the international effort in the Afghanistan theatre of operations with military personnel, deployed ensure a proper security environment, the reconstruction process, to train and mentor the Afghan National Security Forces. Doctrines, tactics, techniques and procedures were adapted to counter the insurgency, asymmetrical or non-conventional threats and to increase interoperability with the Coalition forces in the fields of Intelligence, Operations, Communications, Civil-Military relationship, Special Operations Forces etc. at tactical, operational, and strategic level. The strategic airlift capabilities and arrangements were improved, as well as the logistical and financial planning, required to deploy and sustain the forces at such long distances. The Romanian Armed Forces were consistently supported by the US Armed Forces, with essential mission capabilities and logistical support. The almost two decades of experience in Afghanistan helped the Romanian Armed Forces in many ways. We developed our professional skills, technical capabilities, and diplomatic abilities. We deployed and sustained military units in harsh environment, under high-risk conditions, and we became better.
