Summary/Abstract: The movement is a key factor for the quality of life of elderly people. Through them, a person interacts with the environment and adapts it as per its personal needs. Behavior, as a major function of the nervous system, is determined by innate and acquired actions, aimed at satisfying basic life needs and adapting the individual to certain environmental conditions. Volitional movements have purposefulness and are performed in order to achieve different goals - internal and external. They are related not only to different sensory stimuli, but thoughts, desire and emotions as well. When elderly people are situated in a safe environment and they are not required to participate actively in daily duties like cooking, shopping or cleaning, walking and performing additional activities require additional motivation. Reduced motor activity leads to complications like decrease of muscle power, balance issues, change in the posture, gait and increases the risk of falling. When these factors are combined with additional diseases – neurological, orthopedical, visual disturbances, disfunction of the peripheral motor and sensory nerves, then the desire of the elderly people decreases even more.Purpose of the research: Reveal and analyze the problems of the physical activity in the conditions of the modern residences of elderly people, follow the interest in the variety of sport and fun activities and the use of effective mechanisms in order to motivate motor activity. Based on that, define whether there is a necessity of additional planned motor activity program for elderly people in the residencies, and to what extend it can be used to currently available base in stimulating additional movement.Methodology: A poll has been conducted in a residency for elderly people ??Nadezhda? - Sofia. It was noted the attitude of the elderly people to perform physical activities such as using stairs instead of an elevator, daily walks outside the home, the use of walking aids, the desire to engage in additional activities such as yoga for elders, dancing, etc. A connection to their past jobs and motor habits has been made. Conclusions: The poll provides us with an answer on whether there is a necessity of an additional motor program, which should stimulate elderly people in performing different physical activities. They themselves have the desire, but do not feel the necessity of performing more movement.
