Summary/Abstract: This essay analyzes how the human body has been represented in Albanian visual art during state socialism (1944-1991). By referring to specific art works from the period, I argue that artistic representations of the body may be treated as a site for witnessing what the socialist system expected from people and hoped for itself, including its stances on human behavior, the collective, and the individual.
