Summary/Abstract: The institute of marriage as a unique relationship between a man and a woman was given a special legal protecion by family laws, criminal codes and constitutions. The protection of institute of marriage was based e.g. on certain conditions which inhibited to enter into a marriage (positive conditions and negative conditions). One of the negative conditions was existence of another marriage. The main aim of presented legal regulation was to avoid creation of bigamous relationships.
