Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with analysis of one of the institutes, which in the view of criminal law precludes unlawfulness – namely the Institute of extreme urgency and its literary treatment. Framework based on American writer E. A. Poe and then describes the essence of the story of the Shipwrecked (Story of Arthur Gordon Pym). Derives from it the key moments, these are subsumed under the current criminal treatment of Institute of the Slovak Republic. The article also contained some considerations regarding the admissibility of such action in extreme distress and some relevant case law.
