Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the present contribution is to refer the basic legal aspects of the interference to the work, on the basis of Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code, where the famous portrait of Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci is damaged. For a better understanding of the issue work defines work as an object of copyright law and the attention pays to his subjects too. It also deals with conflicts of ownership of material substrate through the work is expressed with copyright. Attention is also paid to the duration of copyright and to the free work, as well as to the protection of the work after the author’s death. This is ensured by the post- mortem protection. Work focuses on legal analysis of interference to the material substrate- the picture and to the claims for damages under the Civil Code.
