Summary/Abstract: This article is a comparative overview of short stories by Ota Pavel from his collections Smrt krásných srnců [The Death of the Beautiful Roebucks] and Jak jsem potkal ryby (How I Came to Know Fish). The background for Pavel’s prose are texts written by Bruno Schulz and Artur Sandauer. The aim of this comparison is to capture some universal themes of those works, including writing strategies, which transform classical autobiographical conventions.
