Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to offer the reader a short and a clear radiography of the Romanian society from a demographic point of view. In order to demonstrate that the demographic decline of the Romanian society is not a natural phenomenon but an artificial one, one will describe the causes and effects of the phenomenon through theories and concepts such as the idea of citadel (Fustel de Coulanges), vitality (Nicolae Iorga), nation and social will (Dimitrie Gusti). Also, in the background one will rely upon certain elements of demography (rates of natural increase, abortion, emigration, the age at birth of the first child etc.). The main objective of the material is to make the reader understand that the Romanian society has the symptoms of an abandoned society by its own elites, a situation that is worsening day by day
