Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to identify the key aspects and stylistic features in composer Felicia Donceanu's instrumental works. Regardless of genre, these works reflect the composer's desire to enhance, define and add more expressiveness to the artistic message, by infusing the music with a poetic idea, pragmatically formulated and underpinned by a predominantly lyrical quality. Upon analysis of Felicia Donceanu's musical output in all its complexity, particularly at a macro structural level, we notice the rigorous organization of the musical material, along with a certain freedom of the at times whimsically-asymmetrical musical phrases. Particularly impressive is Felicia Donceanu's keen sense of musical color, which enables her to create ingenious timbral combinations meant to recreate in sound an archaic Romanian atmosphere. The works in which the composer plays with multiple timbral combinations, in a rich polychromatic palette that gives life to a genuine universe of instrumental sounds, and in which, through the language used, she brings sounds of olden times into a contemporary setting, are Romanian versions of the revival of old music and instruments.
