Summary/Abstract: Polish workers, the great majority of them female, made up the largest group of foreign workers in communist Czechoslovakia. Especially the textile industry in the northern and eastern parts of Bohemia could not have functioned without them. For young Poles, working abroad was not only an opportunity to earn more, but also for emancipation, the consequence of which was a high number of marriages with Czechs.
