Summary/Abstract: This article presents the results and conclusions of studies on motivational factors of workers employed in organizations in hotels and gastronomy sectors in Kraków. The analysis was based on 118 questionnaires. One of the key findings of the study was that women and men are motivated by different factors in their work in these sectors, hence the need to devise different motivational strategies aimed at these two distinct groups. Another important conclusion of the study is that negative motivation is very ineffective. The article also comprises interviews with managers from the organizations in focus. The interviews were concentrated on specifics of devising motivational strategies for the hotels and gastronomy sectors. The article also diagnoses problems and challenges arising during the process of employee motivation in these sectors.
