Summary/Abstract: Abstract: The text observes the construction of memory in Dora Gabe's short memoirs It analyzes her accounts about a number of distinguished Bulgarian writers and critics, such as Pencho Slaveykov, Boyan Penev, Ivan Vazov, Yodan Yovkov and several others. Comparisons between these memoirs have been made in order to highlight the different strategies in the portrayal of each of those writers as figures of memory. The study concludes that Dora Gabe memory becomes a flexible tool that allows the poetess herself to fit into the current cultural context, requiring an ideologically predetermined approach about events and personalities of the past. At the same time, Dora Gabe manages to maintain the strength of her personal presence and to help reinstate suppressed authors and include other authors in the canon.
