Summary/Abstract: After the Islamic Revolution, Iran transformed its strategic culture in accordance with the new threat perceptions. Aspiring to be a regional power since very ancient times, Iran today pursues to become a regional hegemon based on sectarian and ideological rhetoric namely as Shiism and anti-imperialism. Being confronted with powerful adversaries such as US and Israel in the region, Iran has heavily invested in methods that consolidate its deterrence capabilities. Proxy warfare and hybrid warfare are the essential methods which Iran has employed throughout its pursuit of regional prowess. The asymmetrical wars waged in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria are significant examples in which Iran’s new strategic culture is exhibited.
