Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of studies on effects of the crisis of 2007-2010 on the condition and behavior of Polish companies. The main objective of this paper is to verify the hypothesis of increased sensitivity of young companies (start-up) in the recession phase and their weak reactivity against the risks of crisis. Therefore, empirical results are presented in the breakdown by age of the surveyed companies. In the vast majority of the presented analysis areas, there is no evidence of significant differences in the resistance of firms of different ages to the crisis. Although the studies clearly show the negative impact of the downturn in the real economic performance of businesses, the age variable is not distinctive and it is not responsible for the differentiation of the impact of the crisis. Similarly, the assessment of the downturn impact on the prospects of companies has not documented any significant differences from the point of view of firms age. The only difference of attitudes towards the crisis in the group of young companies in the background of these older ones is the moment of the first symptoms of crisis observations and the type of recovery decisions. These conclusions became the basis for the rejection of the adopted above hypothesis.
