Summary/Abstract: The Black Wave phenomena occurred in Yugoslav cinema during the 1960s and early 1970s. This new wave represents a non-traditional form of Yugoslav filmmaking in which, for the first time since the end of the World War II, communist rule and new Yugoslav society were questioned and criticized. This period represents one of the most creative years of film experimenting in Yugoslavia that opened many debates and discussions about state society and culture. This paper tries to answer on questions how this movement influenced and shaped Yugoslav society and how these movies questioned state ideology and partisan’s ethics. Moreover, in an attempt to provide wider frame to phenomena, the paper introduces international context and how foreign countries reacted to the evolution of Yugoslav cinematography. The core of the paper is the interview conducted with professor Predrag Bajčetić, who was a director and professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. Professor Bajčetić played a significant role in Black Wave movement, and was one of the rare cademicians that defended his colleagues who were supposed to be suspended because of their nvolvement in it. Hence, this paper will be divided in two. The first part will contain the analysis of lack Wave in Yugoslavia. The second part will give a broader image of this whole movement nd how its ideas could be transplanted from one Eastern European country to another.
