Summary/Abstract: The article presents the experience of the Chilean schools’ activities in the post- occupation period in Mapuche. The features of the state educational politics are reconstructed within the framework of asymmetric intercultural relations. It is shown that the school became an active agent in achieving monoculturalism and the introduction of Western knowledge which did not fulfill its mission: the people of Mapuche managed to survive when the attempts of control and conquest were taken; today, there is also an opposing cultural resistance to the state, which operates the logic of excluding ethnic and linguistic diversity.
