Summary/Abstract: The rising industrialization wave between the 19th and 20th centuries not only changed the production and consumption habits of societies, but also added many new concepts to human life. One of these concepts is "leisure time". Although it is generally defined as free and arbitrary time periods outside of working hours, when the activities developed around "leisure time" are examined, the contrast between the definition and the application reveals itself. When the concept of "leisure time" is considered in the context of Turkish society, it is seen that the "leisure time" in which the vast majority of individuals spend their free time in the consumption wheels of the city, is a market area under the monopoly of the city rather than an enjoyment or an individual preference. One of the areas where "leisure time" is effectively marketed in modern society is "hobbies". Recently, "hobby gardens", which are accepted as hobbies and emerged as leisure activities, are also included in this area. Hobby gardens, which can be defined as individuals' cultivation of crops on this land by renting or purchasing a certain acre of land suitable for planting outside the city center, are discussed in the context of Ankara. The aim of this study, which is based on the leisure-time approaches of theorists such as Thorstein Veblen, J.L.Hemigway, George Ritzer, Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer and supported by a questionnaire, is to determine the reasons for the increasing interest in hobby gardens and whether this trend is related to the demographic characteristics of individuals and to obtain information about the future of this occupation in culture.
