Socio-economic situation in the Wadowice poviat in 1914-1919

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the economic situation of the Wadowice district during the Great War (1914-1918) and in the first months of the independent Polish state (at the turn of 1918). The district was not occupied by the Russian army and was not included in military operations, therefore it did not suffer direct war damage (destroyed houses, economic buildings, transport infrastructure and agriculture). However, the population of the district was affected by indirect results of the war: closed industrial plants and craft workshops, confiscation of corn, potatoes and slaughter cattle and famine as a consequence of the above.
