Summary/Abstract: Existence of developed and well equipped libraries at monasteries inEgypt testifies high level of education of ascetics in period from 4th to 7th century. Acquiring insights in kinds of books that they had possessed allowed better understanding of preferences that fathers of dessert have had. Production of books at monasteries was unique process based on the ground of ascetic practice. Copying text from the Bible, monks were pronouncing its words and then internalized them through every day relationship among each other. Contribution of ascetic communities to spreading literal culture in Egypt was immense and without studying ofthis question literacy in late antique period cannot be comprehensively understood.
