Summary/Abstract: The presented article describes the attempts to classify patterns of vermillion border, the aim of which was to create usable lip prints database. Revolutionary Japanese research, as well as succeeding Brazilian, French or Czech investigations on the discussed topic, in spite of high accuracy level in classifying particular types of patterns did not bring the desired result. However, Polish classification proposed by J. Kasprzak who resigned to describe all of human vermillion border patterns in order to precisely define quantitative predominance of features in the middle fragment of lower lip appeared to be applicable. In fact, after analysis of cases data conducted by the author of the article it turns out that Kasprzak’s classification is the only one that can be applied in practice. Therefore, it may become a basis to create computerized lip print database.
