Summary/Abstract: The fiscal policy in the field of environment has an essential influence on the sustainable development in the post-transition countries. Romania registered significant changes of fiscal policy in the field of environment, due to the sustained dependence on traditional energy resources to satisfy its own energetic needs. We would like to analyze the possibility of a causal relation between the GDP in Romania and some explanatory variables regarding the taxation of the damages on environment and on the energy consumption. We tried to identify the influence of environmental taxation on the sustainable economic development starting from the premises that for the emerging economies these taxations offer both a growth of the GDP but also a prevention of the environmental degradation by reducing pollution and the practices which are harmful for the environment.
