Summary/Abstract: In the last two centuries, Romanian women had to struggle in order to carve a place for themselves not only in sciences, but also in the society. Eventually, their struggle paid off. Today, women can enjoy a prominent career in academia as well as in any other field of their choice. This article provides a concise summary of their struggles and their achievements as well as a short catalogue of the leading feminine figures. It aims at pointing out the main roads to emancipation, modernization and empowerment of women in Romania from the XIXth century onwards.
