Summary/Abstract: The contribution describes the assortment of food, poor supply chain organisation, scarcity, and increasing cost of living during World War I in Ljubljana. More detailed consideration is given to the housekeepers’ principal tasks, aimed mainly at solving the questions of appropriate actions to mitigate the consequences of the war conditions and keep their families healthy. The answers present themselves through a practice of useful advice, recommendations, and recipes that the housekeepers could resort to while running their numerous daily errands.
