STEĆAK - MEDIEVAL TOMBSTONE AND THE OLD MUSLIM CEMETERY IN MRKOVIĆI, CENTAR SARAJEVO MUNICIPALITY

Summary/Abstract: The mixture of cemeteries from different historical periods gives special significance to the historical Mrković area - in the immediate vicinity of the medieval grave with the medieval tombstone there is a Muslim cemetery from the 16th-19th century period, which confirms the continuity of burials in this area. At this site, there is one shape of medieval tombstone –the gabled tombstone with a pedestal and without any decoration, and five shapes of Muslim tombstones; stela, a male Muslim tombstone with a square base and a pleated turban, a male Muslim tombstone with a square base and an Agha turban, a stone Muslim tombstone with a circular base and an octagonal Muslim tombstone. The ornaments that can be found on the Muslim tombstones are: circles and semi-apples in the form of embossed protrusions and depressions.
