Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the competitiveness of exports from the West Balkans countries, with special emphasis on the economy of Serbia. It draws attention to the basic factors that affect the competitiveness of exports, with comparisons between the West Balkans countries. It examines the flows of foreign direct investment, production costs, export intensity according to the level of work qualification. It analyzes the involvement in international production networks as an important channel of entry to foreign markets, especially from the point of view of participation of parts and components in exports. Starting from the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) to improve the structure and raise the quality of export products, the paper analyzes their impact on competitiveness and investment climate as a factor for attracting FDI.
