Summary/Abstract: The study presents selected aspects of the systemic understanding of the family. Currently, the systems approach is quite widely used in many sciences. There are many indications that modern science has found an important methodological tool in explaining complex phenomena and processes in the theory of systems. According to systemic reasoning, the family is viewed as a natural system in which complex relationships and interactions take place, creating a network of feedback loops. The family system is relatively open and dynamic, characteristic of living organisms. The family as a system develops with a simultaneous tendency to maintain balance. Nevertheless, it also has properties such as variability and evolution. Another feature of the systems is the existence of a hierarchical organization. The family has a specific structure determined by the system of relations, roles and positions of its individual members. It is made up of smaller structural units, or subsystems. These elements interact with each other, and each person depends on the rest of the family. This means that a change taking place in one unit causes changes in the entire family system.
