Summary/Abstract: Over its evolutionary course, the Quran, which is the holy book of Islam, hasbecome not only a source of truths of faith for the umma (the Muslim community), but alsoa moral code containing a set of dos and don’ts. Due to its literary specificity, anachronismand the ambiguities appearing therein, it leaves room for interpretation, among both ordinary believers and scholars dealing with Quranic law. The literal interpretation of the holybook contributed to the emergence of many Islamic fundamentalisms. One of them is theMuslim Brotherhood established in the interwar period in Egypt. The aim of this paper isto show the coexistence of two intertwined functional elements of this organization – relatedto politics and terrorism, and resulting from the application of the literal and, at the sametime, radical interpretation of the Quran.
