Summary/Abstract: In the first part, which takes the form of a brief overview, we show some problematic or, conversely, well-chosen solutions for writing compound cardinal and ordinal numerals in older codification manuals and reflections of linguists. In the second part of the study, we analyze the Rules of Slovak Spelling from 1991 and their supplemented edition from 1998 with regard to some inconsistent or ambiguous instructions contributing to the occurrence of double forms of compound numerals written both as one word and as separate words. We present a solution proposal, which is the result of a critical comparison of several options for formulating spelling instructions more clearly, and thus reduce the degree of user uncertainty in their application.
