Summary/Abstract: The vampire is probably the most popular mythological creature in many different aspects of today`s culture, including television, literature, music and alternative lifestyles. Its popularity has particularly expanded in the first decade of the 21st century and does not show signs of waning. We believe that this fascination with the undead is due to the transformative powers of the vampire, its seemingly endless possibilities of serving as an embodiment of our projections, yet maintaining its mythological basis. This essay will deal with the literary character of the vampire as an embodiment of the Other in Macedonian literature, at the same time giving an overview of the development of this character in Macedonian prose. Three aspects of Otherness will be presented through the vampire - the cultural, the philosophical and psychological aspects and how these have (not) changed in the past 100 years.
