Summary/Abstract: The present paper provides a lexical and discursive analysis of several web based Orthodox Lenten recipes (two sites and a blog), the main objective of which is to highlight the cultural exoticness expressed at these levels (discursive and lexical) by certain words that refer to dishes, ingredients and food that are rather unusual for “native” French people, not being used to a low diet. We will show that by virtue of the openness and reception by French cuisine of the most diverse foreign flavors, this cultural exoticness expressed by Lenten recipes will be associated with a ritual canonicity, accepted and understood in this way, in the name of a traditional practice of fasting in Orthodoxy.
