Summary/Abstract: The present study analyses the attitude, in the mosaic world, towards death and towards the cult of the dead. Judaism is a religion of life, so the prospect of death has been thoroughly researched. Eloquent in this regard is the gesture that Judah Maccabee makes on the battlefield, ordering a sacrifice for the sins of the fallen soldiers. Starting from this historical moment, the study analyses how death is greeted in today’s Jewish society. The detailed preparation of the burial, the care for the body of the departed, the mourning, the eulogy, the prayers, and the tombstone are just some of the aspects analysed here, that illustrate the hope and love with which Jews accompany their dead towards eternal life.
