Summary/Abstract: In this study I have addressed the issue of death from the New Testament perspective. The theme is developed within three main ideas:- Death does not mean the transition of the Christian into nothingness, into non-being, but his access to the full meaning of life from its eschatological phase. Therefore, death is a necessary and universal event, being the bridge to another existence- From the perspective of the Gospel of Christ, the meaning and the transfiguring effect of death is expressed in the metaphor “sleep”, “falling asleep”. This theological dimension of the meaning of death also predominates in the writings of Apostle Paul and other authors of the New Testament, to which other metaphors also apply, such as: “tent”, “dwelling in heaven”, “clothing” etc.- The Eternal life is given to us only by the Person of Jesus Christ and consists in listening to His word and accepting His messianic mission. Therefore, death is first and foremost a mystery that is part of the created existence and that proves itself to be the “gate of the great passage”, from here, to beyond.
