Summary/Abstract: Countries were involved in competition to be the first to deploy fifth-generation mobile networks, as many are at stake. Although technologies capable of unlocking the full potential of 5G - autopilot cars, virtual reality, remote surgery, smart things, smart cities - will not appear in a few years, leadership in building these networks will bring great benefits to its countries and economies. At least that was the case with 4G. If it weren't for the early emergence of fourth-generation networks in the US, the country would have struggled to dominate mobile technology, and Facebook, Netflix, Instagram and Snapchat may not have become global platforms. It is important that the US does not hesitate to launch 5G so as not to lose its competitive advantage on the global stage, McDowell said. To date, China, South Korea, the United States and Japan are leaders in this field.
