Summary/Abstract: Meronymy is a semantic relation of major importance for structuring concepts in the conceptual system of a particular field by establishing part-whole relationships that are formed between the concepts and, respectively, the terms that designate these concepts. The present paper aims to study how the relation of meronymy was treated as an object of linguistic investigations as well as the representation of this relation in the terminology from the domain of biomedical engineering in English and Romanian, focusing on the identification and classification of meronym pairs based on a comparable corpus of original texts.
