“Such simple words?” Song as a performance on the example of “Jeszcze w zielone gramy” by Wojciech Młynarski

Summary/Abstract: This article presents interpretative possibilities resulting from reading a song (its particular performances) by means of the category of performance. The definition of this concept used in the research is drawn from Richard Schechner’s theory, while the understanding of various aspects of the song’s performativity is based both on Schechner’s “performative questions” and Erika Fischer-Lichte’s findings. On the example of Wojciech Młynarski’s “Jeszcze w zielone gramy” and various performances of the aforementioned hit song (by actors and friends of Teatr Ateneum, Maciej Maleńczuk, Daria Zawiałow, among others), the numerous possibilities of “capturing” this multi-coded genre are examined, allowing us to outline the shapes and forms of its broad social functioning as well as the relation between the song and society.
