Summary/Abstract: This work is intended to present the process of conservation and restoration of two paintings on canvas oil technique, operations carried out during the academic year 2020-2021 within a collaboration between the University of Art and Design of Cluj-Napoca (UAD) and the Arad Museum Complex (CMA). The interventions were carried out by the students Dorottya Pattus and Dorottya Czernák (third year Bachelor), under the coordination of the restorers Ioan Paul Colta (CMA) and Adrian Rauca (UAD). The two portraits, that are the subject of this case study, are signed by Theodor Aman and Mihail Dan and come from the CMA collection. The works are remarkable not only because of their authors or from a technical point of view, but also from a historical perspective, and the similarities between the two paintings are explained both by the style of the era and by the relationship between the master and the disciple, respectively the influence of Theodor Aman on his apprentice. The article will present the entire conservation and restoration process, from historical documentation and preliminary non-invasive investigations, to the detailed presentation of the conservation status with an emphasis on previous restorations and ending with the conservation and restoration methodology, from the first operation - the general dust removal, to the final opening.
